Lighter stretch comes just in time for Dallas Mavericks
單打跳投隊最近五天四戰, 雖然贏了樂透區的國王隊, 但分別敗給三支西區分組冠軍:

The Dallas Mavericks just played the three Western Conference division
leaders in a five-day span. They had a win against lottery-bound Sacramento
mixed in, but the losses to San Antonio, the Los Angeles Lakers and Utah were
deflating.

"Five days?" Jason Kidd said. "Has it been that long? Seems like every day."
是滴…西區就是這麼硬. 前八強勝差只有五場. 跳投隊現在排第七. 第八的勇士跟第九
的金塊只有一場半勝差
That's the way it is in the West, where the eight playoff teams were
separated by five games when they woke up Tuesday morning, with Denver
lurking another game and a half back.
接下來幾場是進補用的. 十場中有九場主場. 剛好小牛今年主場勝率粉高 (25W-3L). 唯
一客場是目前爐主: 熱火.
It seems like every game is a major test, which makes the coming stretch for
the Mavericks so crucial. They actually have a slew of games they need to –
and should – win. Nine of their next 10 are in the cozy confines of
American Airlines Center, where they are 25-3 this season. The only road trip
is to Miami, which has the worst record in the NBA.

Six of their next eight games are against East teams and four of those are
presently in the lottery.

In short, the time has come to forget about problems against the West's best
and make a killing in a portion of the schedule that is packed with
riff-raff.

The goal is to make sure the battle scars they got in the last week serve
them better down the stretch.

"We got to try to get some home cooking," coach Avery Johnson said. "Home has
been very good for us this year, and this is a time when we need it. There's
only 21 games left and this will be a good time for us to get ourselves
going."
雖然對爵士有兩次要命失誤, 但是最近比賽都很硬的Dirk說: 看…輸在最後幾分鐘. 大
家都很不爽. 現在最重要的 是跟新隊友練默契 多贏幾場主場 大家才會更有信心去
打那些很硬的客場 然後 就是要給他贏下去就對了
Dirk Nowitzki, who has been on a huge tear of late but also had two costly
turnovers in the late-game meltdown against Utah on Monday, said the
Mavericks are fighting through the emotions of having played tough against
the three division leaders in the West, but failing to beat any of them.
"It's obviously a little frustrating, but maybe we need to get used to each
other a little," he said. "We got a nice little homestand here and we got to
use that to our advantage, get that confidence in ourselves that we need to
win those big road games. Most importantly, we got to win some games."

The Mavericks also will have some off days that they can devote to practice
sessions that will be geared to cleaning up defensive nuances that have been
difficult to grasp in the first couple weeks for Kidd and new backup center
Jamaal Magloire.

But Johnson added that he's not worried about his team's mental state.
"They actually have the heart of a champion," he said.

Maybe so, but they also are learning that while they are near the same level
with the West's best, beating those teams on the road remains a mystery. The
Mavericks haven't beaten a winning team – home or road – since the Kidd
trade, something they'll try to rectify Thursday against Houston.

"For us to compete against the best on the road, that's where you find out
about your team," Kidd said. "That New Orleans one was hard because we had an
hour's practice. But from then on, we're growing each time we take the floor.
"We're right there. When you look at the schedule, there were no blowouts. We
were down to the last possession in a lot of these games. Unfortunately, we
don't like to lose, but we got to look at what we did to put ourselves in
that position. That's how you become a champion, learning to understand those
situations."

It's official: Point guard Tyronn Lue was signed to a minimum veteran's
contract Tuesday. The 6-0 Lue will go through his first practice with the
team today.

Unfortunate situation: Nowitzki said his flagrant foul against Utah's Andrei
Kirilenko was a result of him trying to prevent a three-point play.
Nowitzki grabbed the fellow 7-footer around the neck and Kirilenko hit the
deck, ending up at the hospital, where X-rays revealed no structural damage
to his right hip.
As with all flagrant fouls, the league office will review tape of the
incident.
