SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners outfielders Ichiro Suzuki and Franklin
Gutierrez have been selected to the 2010 American League Rawlings Gold Glove
Team, announced today by the Rawlings Sporting Goods Company and Major League
Baseball. The award is Ichiro's 10th consecutive Gold Glove award and the
first for Gutierrez.

This marks the 11th time in club history the Mariners have had multiple Gold
Glove winners, and first since 2008. It is the fourth time to win two of the
three OF awards, joining Jay Buhner and Ken Griffey Jr. in 1996 and Ichiro
and Mike Cameron in 2001 and 2003.

Ichiro, 37, is the first player to win a Gold Glove in each of his first 10
Major League seasons. He also becomes the 6th outfielder, and 16th player at
any position, in Major League history to earn at least 10 Gold Gloves in a
career. Only Roberto Clemente and Willie Mays (12 each) and Ken Griffey Jr.,
Andruw Jones and Al Kaline (10 each) have 10 Gold Gloves for outfield play in
a career. Ichiro also won seven consecutive Gold Glove Awards while playing
for the Orix Blue Wave in Japan from 1994-2000.

In 2010, Ichiro finished with a .989 fielding percentage, making just four
errors in 365 chances this season (354 putouts, 7 assists). Among AL right
fielders, Ichiro ranked 1st in putouts, total chances, starts (160) and
innings played (1412.0), 3rd in fielding percentage and T4th in assists. He
also won the Fielding Bible Award for the second consecutive season and third
time in his career.

Gutierrez, 27, earns his first Gold Glove after winning Fielding Bible awards
in 2008 (RF) and 2009 (CF). He set a Major League record this season by
becoming the first outfielder to not record an error with over 400 total
chances. He was flawless in 415 chances (413 putouts, 2 assists), bettering
the old record of 396 errorless chances by Curt Flood in 1966.

Today's announcement extends the streak of a Mariner winning a Gold Glove to
24 consecutive seasons, the longest current streak in the Majors. Seattle's
streak dates back to 1987, when pitcher Mark Langston became the first
Mariner ever to win a Gold Glove. Since 1998, the Mariners have captured 23
Gold Gloves (Ichiro - 10, Boone - 3, Olerud - 3, Griffey Jr. - 2, Cameron -
2, Beltre - 2, Gutierrez - 1), most in the Majors during that time span (St.
Louis is 2nd with 21). The National League Gold Glove winners will be
announced tomorrow.
