The London Underground's Waterloo and City line is finally reopening
The commuter line has been closed since the start of the pandemic but is set
to reopen very soon
Since it's mainly used by commuters, the Waterloo and City line has been
closed since the start of the pandemic in March 2020.
As lockdown eases and people return to work, Transport for London has
announced that the London Underground 's shortest line will be reopening from
June 21.
The Waterloo and City line runs between Waterloo and Bank stations with no
stops, and as such primarily serves commuters coming into the financial
district from South-West London, Surrey and Hampshire via Waterloo mainline
station.
When it reopens from June 21, the Waterloo and City line will run every five
minutes Monday to Friday from 6am to 10am, and 3pm to 7pm.
TfL hopes this will allow customers to spread their journeys to avoid busier
times in the mornings and afternoons, and also add extra capacity during peak
times.
The operator has said that customers are still encouraged to travel at
quieter times where possible across the network, and TfL will continue to
monitor demand.
Andy Lord, Managing Director of London Underground, said: "The reopening of
the Waterloo and City line on June 21 will be a step back towards normality
for London, as people who have been working from home return to offices in
the City.
"We're looking forward to welcoming customers back onto the network and
helping the capital get back onto its feet again."
As is the case across the whole London Underground network, the Waterloo and
City line will be cleaned with hospital-grade cleaners that kill viruses and
bacteria on contact and provide ongoing protection. It will also be
well-ventilated, as the constant movement of trains and the frequent opening
and closing of train doors means fresh air is always circulating.
TfL says that independent testing by Imperial College London, which has been
carried out monthly since September and involves taking swabs of touch points
in stations and air samples in ticket halls, has found no traces of
coronavirus on the transport network.
Sadiq Khan, the Mayor of London, added: "I'm very pleased to announce the
return of this commuter line, which is an important milestone in the
reopening of our city and will help get the central London economy back to
life and protect jobs.
"I'm grateful that Waterloo and City drivers have helped ensure we could
offer the most frequent service possible on the Central line over the
challenging past year, and I'm delighted that from next month the Waterloo &
City line will return."

從滑鐵盧站到金融區銀行站的一站穿梭線
主要功能為接載滑鐵盧站的乘客到金融區
在去年三月起因為「疫情」乘客大減關閉
如今因英國將鬆綁管制，將於6/21重開
但暫只在星期一至星期五早上6-10時、下午3-7時行駛，每5分鐘一班車
W&C在停駛期間，司機跑去支援中央線
另外北方線今年下半年要關閉銀行支線4個月做銀行站改造工程
期間所有班次一律行駛查令十字支線
W&C再開可有助於疏導人潮
雖然W&C只有兩站之間穿梭，而且星期日停開(在停駛以前就是如此)
但尖峰時間自滑鐵盧站大怒灌的乘客量還是很可觀的
