The Philadelphia Phillies have hired Los Angeles Angels assistant general
manager Matt Klentak as their new general manager, a baseball source
confirmed to ESPN.com Saturday.
有一個可靠的棒球界消息源跟ESPN.com透漏︰費城人已經與前天使隊助理總管Matt
Klentak達成協議，成為費城隊的新任球隊事務總管(GM)。
Klentak, 36, replaces Ruben Amaro Jr., who was fired in September with the
Phillies on the way to a major league-worst 63-99 record and a second
straight last-place finish in the National League East.
36歲的Klentak將接替上個月因球隊戰績欠佳被革職的Ruben Amaro Jr.。
這裡也順便補充費城人隊的慘況︰他們不僅是今年球季全聯盟戰績最差的球隊，
還差一點就要締造例行賽百敗的紀錄。而他們也不意外地連續兩年坐穩國聯東區
的爐主。
The Phillies did not immediately confirm the hiring, which was first reported
by the Boston Globe.
不過目前為止，費城隊官方還沒有正式確認這項由波士頓媒體率先發布的消息。
Klentak, a Massachusetts native, is a former shortstop and baseball team
captain at Dartmouth College. He began his executive career with the Colorado
Rockies organization, and has previously worked with Andy MacPhail, the
Phillies' new president of baseball operations, in Major League Baseball's
central office and the front office of the Baltimore Orioles.
Klentak原本生長於麻薩諸塞州(紅襪隊所屬州)，大學時不僅加入常春藤名校「達特茅
斯」，也在其棒球校隊擔任游擊手兼隊長。大學畢也後他先在洛磯隊展開球隊管理職
生涯，後來則被金鶯隊聘用，與今年起擔任費城人總裁的Andy MacPhail合作。
Upon parting ways with Amaro, MacPhail and Phillies part-owner John Middleton
indicated they would be looking at GM candidates with strong analytical
backgrounds. Tampa Bay's Chaim Bloom and Oakland's Dan Kantrovitz, Ivy League
graduates in their 30s, also made it to the final round of the interview
process before the Phillies decided on Klentak.
在結束與Amaro的合作關係後，MacPhail與費城隊老闆John Middleton都曾經表示
希望新任GM人選能擁有強烈的數據分析背景。光芒隊的Chaim Bloom與運動家隊
的Dan Kantrovitz，不僅與Klentak都是畢業於常春藤名校且年齡低於40的管理
人才，也都入選費城隊遴選的最後階段。最後費城決定Klentak勝出。
Before landing the Phillies' job, Klentak interviewed for the vacant GM
position in Anaheim. The Angels went outside the organization and hired
former New York Yankees assistant GM Billy Eppler to fill the role.
在獲得費城隊的職務前，Klentak也曾經應徵天使隊因前任GM離職後留下的職缺。
不過他最後輸給了原本在洋基隊擔任助理的Billy Eppler。

心得︰恭喜Klentak。他上任後是不需要馬上讓費城人重返爭冠列強的行列，
不過對於選秀的情報蒐集以及做表現衰退高薪球員的清倉，
不可避免仍然是球隊發展重要的工作，不曉得費城隊寒假會有什麼後續異動？
另外，感覺天使隊似乎最近幾天一直流失管理人才
(水手隊新任總教練也使從天使挖腳的)，
雖然這也跟Billy Eppler接任後造成的管理階層重整也有一定關係啦！
