Co-ace Roy Halladay, a two-time Cy Young Award winner and eight-time All-Star, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right shoulder and said he hopes to return in six to eight weeks. The move is retroactive to Monday. The 35-year-old Halladay is 4-5 with a 3.98 ERA this season. In his last outing, at St. Louis on Sunday, the right-hander threw two innings before being removed due to right shoulder soreness. Halladay had his shoulder examined on Tuesday, and when it was determined he needed to be placed on the DL, the club recalled catcher Eric Kratz from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Because of an off-day, the Phillies will not need a No. 5 starter until June 6, though it's unclear who will assume that role. Dave Bush, Tyler Cloyd and Scott Elarton are all options from Triple-A. A potential option to replace Halladay in the long run could be free-agent righty Roy Oswalt, but assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said it wasn't worth speculating yet. Industry sources told MLB.com on Tuesday that the Texas Rangers are the front-runners to sign Oswalt.
