Sandoval experienced a similar injury to his right hand last season and missed 41 games. Based on that, he likely will be lost for at least six weeks. The injury occurred in the sixth inning of Wednesday's game against the Marlins. Sandoval hurt himself while grounding out in the sixth inning and was removed from the game. Sandoval and Melky Cabrera had been the only Giants to start in every game this season. Sandoval broke his right hamate -- a small bone at the base of the hand -- last year on April 28. Sandoval had been one of the Giants' most consistent players this season and had gone hitless in just two of his first 24 games. The 25-year-old set a franchise record by hitting in each of his first 20 games this season. The Giants have not yet issued a statement regarding the injury. Infielders Emmauel Burriss, Ryan Theriot and Joaquin Arias could conceivably see time at third in Sandoval's absence.
