Two pivotal members of Rodgers’ backroom staff in Colin Pascoe and Mike Marsh have been let go by the Liverpool owners as they look to freshen up the club’s philosophy following a disappointing sixth placed Premier League finish. Pascoe had been Rodgers’ longstanding right hand man having worked together at Swansea prior to their move to Anfield, it’s a change that has even left former skipper Steven Gerrard slightly confused: ‘I was very surprised to hear about the coaching changes at Liverpool,’ Gerrard said at the launch of BT Sports’ European football channel. ‘I want to hear Brendan speaking at a press conference to hear why he decided to make these decisions, I didn’t expect there to be any changes in the staff positions.’ Former captain Sami Hyypia, previous assistant Pako Ayestaran and Rene Meulensteen have all been touted as potential replacements to become Rodgers’ No.2.
