各位大大 有段文章的意思我讀半天還是不太確定是什麼意思
有人可以講解一下咩

We're headed instead for the dark side of cyberspace. You'll be meeting the men, women, and children who have emerged through my research on Internet addiction. Caught in an on-line underworld of nonstop chat rooms, fantasy dungeons of monsters and mayhem, and electronic bulletin boards
with more listings than a small city's telephone directory, these Internet
addicts are engrossed in a very different experience than the one you might
imagine exists for eager learners and dedicated information seekers.
Internet addicts' confessions suggest that there's a different dimension
to the same Internet you see glorified in the mass media every day.
Rather than becoming the technological savior of our times, the Internet
just might be emerging as the addiction of the millennium, surpassing even
TV with its pervasive grip on our minds and souls.
我看不懂是因為有以下疑惑
1. 網友說這句話意思是"我們現在要轉向前往網路的黑暗面"。若是這意思，為什麼不寫
成" We're headed for the dark side of cyberspace."就好，要加instead？
instead在此作什麼解釋？
2. 網友將"mayhem"譯成"暴力"，但是字典中"mayhem"是指混亂，可是"混亂"放入此文
又不通順，"mayhem"在此要作啥解釋呢？
3. 這裡是說electronic bulletin boards的listings內容比small city's telephone directory的內容還要多嗎?為什麼不寫
成"electronic bulletin boards with listings more than a small city's telephone
directory"?感覺比較通順。
4. 這裡是指"網路成癮患者對網路的體驗，遠超乎一般人所能想像的熱衷學習者和資訊蒐
集狂之間有很大的生活方式"嗎？為何不寫成"these Internet addicts are engrossed
in a very different experience than the one of exists for eager learners
and dedicated information seekers that you might imagine " 這樣子較好讀懂
5. dimension在這段落中作什麼解釋？是後面glorified所修飾的主詞嗎？
這是我閱讀這段文字的疑問 還請各位大大不吝賜教
