FIFA選擇Puyol作為大力神杯交接儀式的西班牙代表。 Puyol scored the decisive goal for Spain in the semi-finals against Germany to put 'La Roja' through to the final against Holland, which was played at Johannesburg's Soccer City. 四年前Puyol在西德之戰射入關鍵一球，西班牙得以挺進決賽，對上荷蘭。 Puyol announced that he was retiring from his playing career a few months ago and that he will start work in September as part of Barcelona's sports management.
