Based on Korean media reports today, Psy has been invited to the VMA, which will be held at Staples Center. Bulletin Entertainment was already expecting that Psy would attend the VMA ever since he announced that he would be coming back to the US this month. Bulletin Entertainment asked an MTV Asia representative last week if Psy would be going to the awards. The representative declined to comment saying "we are not at liberty to comment on artists’ involvement prior to any official announcement." Among the top artists performing at the VMA are Taylor Swift, Alicia Keys, One Direction and Rihanna. Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber's manager, tweeted that the VMA should showcase the "Gangnam Style" performance. "Because im becoming obsessed with this song i think @mtv #VMAs need to have this performance. would be so next level!" he tweeted last night. "Gangnam Style" has become a worldwide phenomenon since its release last July 15. As of this writing, the music video has been viewed 99.08 million times and is on course to reach the 100 million mark today. With "Gangnam Style," Psy has entered multiple charts on Billboard. He zoomed to the No. 1 spot this week on Billboard's Social 50 and YouTube charts. "Gangnam Style" also entered at No. 23 on the Heatseekers Songs chart, No. 71 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, No. 74 on Digital Songs and No. 2 on the K-pop Hot 100 chart. The song also charted at No. 30 on US iTunes Top 100 Songs chart. It is also No. 1 on iTunes Top 10 Pop Songs chart in Denmark and Finland. Billboard.com reports that "Gangnam Style" is making inroads in the US. "While U.S. radio isn't quite embracing the song yet, it is making inroads. Notably, top 40 station KAMP in Los Angeles, the U.S.' second-largest radio market, added the song last week, playing it 24 times. Those detections amounted to 66% of its overall Hot 100 audience for the week ending Aug. 26 (in total: 949,000 impressions). Rhythmic KDDB Honolulu accounted for the second-most audience last week, from 57 plays," according to Billboard.com. More importantly, Psy has signed up with Bieber's label, Island Records, for his singing career in the US and other countries. He will still be under YG Entertainment in Korea. He will be joining the roster of singers under Island Records including Bon Jovi, Mariah Carey, Jennifer Lopez, and Snow Patrol.
