Shumpert, Walking Without Limp, Says He Is Feeling Fine

The first guest speaker for Allan Houston’s Five Borough Basketball Tour was
Knicks guard Iman Shumpert. When he was introduced, Shumpert was cheered by
more than 100 children who participated in the event in Brooklyn. Shumpert
smiled. He didn’t have a brace on his left knee. And he walked without a
limp.
近日尼克防守悍將香波現身球隊高層阿蘭-休斯頓舉辦的籃球活動現場，他的左膝蓋已經
去掉了護具，行走起來也沒有任何一瘸一拐的跡象了。
It’s been almost five months since Shumpert tore the anterior cruciate
ligament and the lateral meniscus in his left knee during the Knicks’
playoff series against the Miami Heat.
現在距離香波在同熱火的季後賽中撕裂左膝蓋前十字韌帶及外側半月板已經過去了有5個
月的時間了。
All signs Saturday suggested that Shumpert’s rehabilitation this off-season
has gone well. He will still miss the start of the regular season, but it
appears Shumpert could possibly return in December if his recovery is ahead
of schedule.

Last week, Shumpert said he hoped to play in December, but that he doesn’t
want to come back too early from his injury.

Shumpert, who wasn’t made available to the news media, didn’t describe his
rehabilitation process, but he told the crowd he felt good. The Knicks are
expected to give an update on Shumpert’s status during the team’s training
camp in October.

Houston has watched Shumpert during the summer. He said he believed Shumpert’
s focus and mind-set will help him get back on the court sooner.

“I think he’s pleased with his approach,” Houston said of Shumpert’s
rehabilitation. “I like the fact that Shumpert expects great things from
himself and he’s not afraid to expect those things. He’s vocal about it,
and what he does is he balances it out with his effort and commitment.”

Last year, Shumpert started 35 games as a rookie. He averaged 9.5 points a
game and 2.8 assists. He also led all rookies with 1.7 steals per game.
During the season, Shumpert was known as one of the Knicks’ best defenders,
along with Tyson Chandler, who was the defensive player of the year.

Shumpert explained it was a role he learned to accept over time last season.

“I don’t love defense, and I don’t wake up in the morning thinking about
guarding people,” Shumpert told the crowd. “I wake up thinking about
winning the game and what it will take.”

Shumpert did comfort Knicks fans about his health. In a short video, he
dunked a ball at the Knicks’ training facility.
He didn’t do any similar stunts Saturday. Instead, Shumpert helped children
during basketball drills, signed a few autographs and took photos with fans.
Houston expects to see Shumpert back at the training facility next week. He
also knows that because Shumpert is not fully healthy, he didn’t have to
come to the event.
休斯頓表示，他預計下週就可以看到香波的身影出現在尼克的訓練中心了。而本來這次青
少年籃球活動香波可以不必來參加，因為他的傷還沒有完全康復，但香波仍然參加了，對
此休斯頓表示很感謝。
“It means a lot to me because it shows for a young player how mature he is,”
Houston said. “He thinks about the big picture. I think he’s going to get
better.”
