Ex-Pistons assistant coach Mike Woodson relishes his delayed shot to lead
By Vince Ellis
NEW YORK -- Knicks coach Mike Woodson quickly reminded the reporter of the
entirety of his summer whereabouts.
Before his Knicks sent the Pistons to their fifth straight loss Saturday
night, he was asked to take a trip down memory lane to his multiple
interviews for the vacant Pistons job. He was an assistant on the 2003-04
world champion Pistons before lasting as coach of the Atlanta Hawks for six
seasons.
"Does it enter your mind that you might not get another chance to run your
own team?"
Woodson said with a laugh: "I struck out three times this summer. Not just
with Detroit, in an interview in Minnesota and an interview in Houston as
well."
原來伍德森來尼克之前,先後被活塞,灰狼,火箭三隊拒絕過。
這樣有算小八卦到嗎? LOL
He added: "I thought all three interviews were great. But ownership or
whoever made the decision in those organizations decided to go in another
direction and I respect that.
"I was just happy I got a phone call here, giving me an opportunity to come
back to New York and an opportunity to go back to work."
He played for the Knicks briefly.
Although Woodson might have wound up on the Pistons' bench, which might have
led Pistons coach Lawrence Frank to the Knicks staff, things have worked out
for him.
He has led the Knicks to a 6-1 record since he became interim coach after the
departure of Mike D'Antoni. Given his reputation as a defensive specialist,
it isn't surprising that the Knicks have improved dramatically at the
defensive end, holding five of seven opponents below 90 points and opponents
are averaging less than 87 points.
"They've heard (Woodson's) voice before, because he was in charge of the
defense," Frank said. "There was confidence, from the players and the
ownership that Mike was the best voice for it."
Notebook: Back-to-back blowout losses over the weekend in which the Pistons
struggled mightily to score points emphasizes how bad the Pistons need Rodney
Stuckey, who has missed the last three games with a sore left big toe.
Besides his scoring, defense and playmaking, despite his many critics,
Stuckey has always been a low-turnover player.
His replacement, Ben Gordon, had seven turnovers in the 15-point loss to the
Heat on Friday and rookie point guard Brandon Knight has nine turnovers over
the last two games. Stuckey averages two turnovers a game.
He said Saturday that he probably would be able to play tonight against the
Wizards.
我對這位Gordon好有興趣,他目前是打替補(代替Rodney Stucket)
他如果可以來KNICKS,替補SG;NOVAK替補SF or PF,外線應該會炸開。LOL
