[新聞] Lee's All-Star Debut a Success
Five years ago, David Lee was the 30th overall pick of the NBA Draft, the
last player selected in the first round.
Sunday night in Dallas, Lee lived the dream of not only every little boy
playing basketball around the country, but every player in the history of the
game who ever made it to the NBA.
That's because Sunday night in Dallas, David Lee officially suited up as an
NBA All-Star.
Joining a very select group of players to ever earn that distinction over the
last 59 years, Lee was named to the team late Thursday afternoon, replacing
Allen Iverson who was forced to withdraw from the game due to personal
reasons. Lee became the first Knick to play in the big game since Allan
Houston and Latrell Sprewell.
Decked out in a blue All-Star jersey with the familiar number 42, David Lee
entered the game at the start of the second quarter, and put up solid numbers
as the Eastern Conference prevailed in a thrilling 141-139 nail-biter. The
6-foot-9, 250-pound forward/center finished the game with four points, two
rebounds and one assist in just over 12 minutes of action.
Playing in front of 108,713 fans at Cowboys Stadium, the most-attended
basketball game in history, Lee had a positive impact almost immediately.
After a Chauncey Billups missed three-pointer, Lee rose and tapped the ball
up in the air to himself. He drove the length of the court before dishing to
the game's eventual MVP Dwyane Wade for a nifty lay-in.
Wade returned the favor minutes later, finding Lee inside who came down with
a monster flush as all five Western Conference defenders looked on
helplessly. Lee scored his other bucket three possessions later off a pass
from Al Horford, laying the ball in to tie the game at 55-55. The East took
the lead a short time later when he left the game with five minutes to go in
the first half.
In his second stint off the bench in the second half, Lee didn't score any
points, but still had a positive impact on the game. The popular Knick
replaced Kevin Garnett at the 5:33 mark, and with him in the lineup, the East
built a nine point lead, 118-109, heading into the fourth quarter when he was
taken out of the game for good. Without him on the court, the West staged a
furious comeback, tying the game at 139 a piece with seven seconds to go
before Chris Bosh played the role of the hero by sinking two free throws with
five seconds remaining to give the East the memorable win.
If playing in the All-Star game wasn't an honor enough, Lee was recognized at
halftime as a member of the 2010-12 United States Mens National Team.
Standing alongside fellow All-Stars LeBron James, Dwight Howard and Wade
amongst others, joining them to represent his country is the next step in
Lee's journey to superstardom.
If his selection and performance during the 2010 All-Star Game is any
indication, Lee is well on his way.
