[外電] "Couple of weeks'' for Curry

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The Knicks won't know for sure until their own doctors read
the MRI tomorrow, but for now the club seems optimistic Eddy Curry could be
back in about two weeks. The MRI showed a labrum tear in his right shoulder
and he'll need rehab.
The Knicks would not give an official timetable until tomorrow, but Isiah
Thomas indicated a "couple of weeks'' is in the ballpark. Curry entered the
University of South Carolina arena for the morning shootaround with a grin,
tipping his hand.
Curry talked about shooting for next Wednesday's game in Boston, but that's
unlikely. You don't want to take chances with a shoulder.
Curry will likely miss more than half their exhibition games, including
tonight's vs. the Sixers here. But there was a small possibility before he
took the MRI that he could have a torn rotator cuff, which is season-ending.
Curry reported his rotator cuff looked fine on the MRI read by South Carolina
doctors. But Curry won't be able to pitch tonight for the Yankees, as Isola
of The News joked.

Sixers executive Larry Brown is in town with the Sixers, at the team hotel,
but did not attend their morning shootaround, probably to avoid the New York
media whom he blames partly for his demise and Isiah Thomas. Brown has given
no interviews with the Philly media this training camp, but it will be worth
a shot tonight.
Posters around town promoting the game have South Carolina grad Renaldo
Balkman's picture all over it. Too bad he's out until late October/early
November.
Walking about Columbia, I saw the famous statehouse that drew all the
controversy a few years ago for flying the Confederate flag on its top. The
Knicks threatened a boycott of Charleston because of it. South Carolina
politicians removed it from the top of the building but the flag now hangs
prominently in front of the building. Maybe a flag is just a flag, but my
hotel van driver is still ticked about its presence.
For the record, the quaint Charleston is so much a better town than Columbia,
it hurts to leave there early for this game. There's probably more stuff
going on in the 10 blocks that make up the center of town in Charleston than
all of South Carolina combined. If you've never visited Charleston, you
should.
