Ideally, when Jason Thompson meets up with the Kings this weekend, he'll be
in a new frame of mind.

Thompson missed the first two games of his NBA career this week to attend a
funeral for a family member on the East Coast.

Westphal used the two games without Thompson to experiment with a smaller
lineup by starting Omri Casspi in Thompson's spot.

"Jason, when he's at his best, gives us size, and an offensive player and
double double (threat)," Westphal said. "When he's playing at his best, we

last game (against San Antonio)."

situations is simple.

points just once in their previous nine games entering Friday night's game
against the Phoenix Suns at Arco Arena.

Kings might have playing offense, Westphal wants to fix the defense.

The Kings entered Friday's game ranked 27th in the NBA in points allowed at
105.4 per game.

"Defense is a lot more complicated than offense," Westphal said "It starts
with not giving away mismatches, and that's come with equal or better
personnel than who you're playing against."

Westphal emphasized the need to correct breakdowns in perimeter defense and
defending the paint.

make on a roster filled with inexperienced players.

Westphal said that's not always the case on offense when it comes to moving
the ball and getting the offense started.

"I don't think that's necessarily a problem with our young guys," Westphal
said. "I think some of our veterans aren't so good at moving the ball
sometimes."
