（法新社西班牙布尼奧爾31日電） 西班牙今天上演了1場大規模的年度食物大戰。數萬名
民眾在著名的「番茄大戰」（La Tomatina）中狂歡，現場有120公噸番茄，供大家互砸噴
濺。
西班牙東部的布尼奧爾鎮（Bunol）湧入將近4萬名民眾。許多人上半身脫個精光、
Sangria水果酒灌到茫，在鎮長廣場（Plaza Mayor）和鄰近街道上，不停以番茄互相扔砸
。街道上「血」流成河，滿是濕滑的番茄汁液。
開戰前，5輛卡車卸下「彈藥」，將其分送給來自世界各地的「戰士」，其中包括美國、
日本和印度的觀光客。
為時1小時的大混戰展開後，擁有1萬居民的布尼奧爾鎮便浸泡在番茄「血泊」中，彷彿成
了真的戰區。
鎮公所發言人培瑞斯（Rafael Perez）說，儘管大家肆無忌憚地破壞番茄，番茄節卻為該
鎮帶來豐富的獲利。
他說此戰役一共耗費布尼奧爾鎮10萬歐元，其中有3萬歐元花在「彈藥」番茄上。
他說，不過觀光客在「番茄大戰」前後在鎮上的消費，不僅打平開銷，還綽綽有餘。（譯

Origin
In 1944, during a parade of gigantes y cabezudos, young men who wanted to
participate in the event staged a brawl. Since there was a vegetable stand
nearby, they picked up tomatoes and used them as weapons. The police had to
intervene to break up the fight, and forced those responsible to pay the
damages incurred.
The following year the young people repeated the fight, only this time
brought their own tomatoes from home. They were again dispersed by the
police. After repeating this in subsequent years, the party was, albeit
unofficially, established.
Changes throughout its history
In 1950, the council allowed the party to happen. The next year however it
was not approved, thanks to pressure from town residents and other
participants.
When the festival was finally officially sanctioned, the launching of
tomatoes became inventive. Methods such as using water canons, catapults and
filling of fountains of rivals became common. Between the noise and chaos,
participants typically primed with those who were mere spectators, including
local personalities. By 1957 the festival was once again banned with strict
penalties, including imprisonment, threatened against those flouting the ban.
In that year, the neighborhood decided to organize what they called "the
funeral of the tomato", which came in a procession carrying a coffin with a
great tomato, accompanied by a band playing funeral marches along the path.
Due to local pressure, in 1959 the town finally approved the Tomatina, but
imposed a rule that people could only throw tomatoes after a horn sounded and
should end when it sounded a second time.The rule was that the person had to
smash the tomato in their hands first and the throw it on each other.
Between 1975 and 1980 the festival was organized by the ordeal of San Luis
Bertran, who supplied the tomatoes, replacing the previous arrangement of
participants bringing their own. The party became popular in Spain thanks to
Javier Basilio reporting the issue in the RTVE Informe Semanal in 1983.
Since 1980 the City Council provides participants with tomatoes, each year a
greater tonnage than the previous year. Visitors became attracted to the
event and in 2002 it was declared a Fiesta of International Tourist Interest.
In 2008 a soundtrack was created, the song of the Tomatina "Todo es del mismo
color" created by the bunyolense rock band "Malsujeto".
