Jam Hsiao 蕭敬騰
I am a 老外 who has an interest in Chinese language and culture. I want to
help Chinese learn English through this blog. As they write comments, I
hope to learn more about Chinese language and culture. I have not been
disappointed. Many new friends have written comments.
我是個對中文和中國文化有興趣的老外。我想藉由這個 blog幫助華人學習英文。當他
們寫回應的時候，我希望學到更多中文和中國文化。我從來沒有失望，許多新朋友都回
了文。
Today I would like to talk about music. That's culture（文化）, isn’t it?
America has “American Idol”, and Taiwan has “One Million Star 超級星光大
道“. One of their most famous contestants has become very popular in Asia,
Jam Hsiao (蕭敬騰).
我今天想來談談音樂。這是種文化，不是嗎？美國有「美國偶像」，台灣有「超級星光
大道」，其中最出名的參賽者在亞洲非常有人氣，他就是蕭敬騰。
From what I understand, when he was 16 蕭敬騰 had only three months of drum
lessons, but had to stop because he couldn’t afford them. But he has a
natural talent and learned to play the drums and in time the piano on his
own. Through much practice, he became very good.
In Taipei, his band played in bars and restaurants. He was able to appear
on One Million Star, as a challenge singer (踢館魔王) who competed with the
regular contestants and possibly eliminate them. And that is what he did!
The show catapulted him into fame.
據我所知，蕭敬騰16歲時只上過三個月的爵士鼓，但因為付不起學費而停止了，但他有
著自然天生的才華並開始學習打鼓，並慢慢自學鋼琴。經過了許多練習，他的技術變得
十分高超。
他的樂團在台北的酒吧和餐廳表演。他以挑戰正規參賽者的踢館魔王身份出現在超級星
光大道，還差點淘汰了他們。這就是他所做的！這個節目讓他爆紅了。
His singing was so popular, that the restaurants and pubs where he played
had so many people that there was no place to sit. People had to stand to
hear him sing. The rest is history, ever since 2007, 蕭敬騰 has been a very
popular Chinese singer.
他的歌聲非常受歡迎，他表演的餐廳和酒吧都人滿為患，座無虛席。人們必須要站著聽
他唱歌。之後的故事就是歷史了，從2007年開始，蕭敬騰就是非常受歡迎的華語歌手了
。
From what I have have read about him, the fame hasn’t made him conceited
and he is a very humble, down to earth person. That is certainly different
from many famous American pop stars.
就我讀到的資料，成名並沒有讓他變得自大自滿，他是一個相當謙虛，平易近人的人。
這跟許多著名的美國流行歌手完全不同。
