K.R.I.T. Wuz Here算是去年最讓人興奮的專輯支一, 不過我必須承認我差點就錯過了這張專輯. 去年年底Reggie Noble的專輯讓我失望之後,開始上網找有哪些評價比較高的專輯, 略過一堆我一點也不想聽的underground CD,發現K.R.I.T. Wuz Here這張mixtape被提到了幾次. 一直以為Big K.R.I.T.就像 Curren$y或是Smoke DZA一樣只是另一個喜歡唱大麻的饒舌歌手, 聽了才發現他根本很少在唱大麻. 仔細聽了幾遍以後, 真的會有一種 "幹, 好險, 差點讓這張專輯變漏網之魚" 幾首歌像是Hometown Hero, Country Shit, Children Of The World, They Got Us更是聽一遍就中了. 來自Mississippi的KRIT, 他的flow配上南方口音在幾首歌中幾乎就跟年輕的Pimp C如出一轍, 有時又有點累似比較比較沒那麼街頭的T.I. 歌詞方面不只是基本的pimp/player風格, 不時也有主流南方饒舌歌手比較少做的conscious rap. KRIT同時也製作自己的音樂, 製作風格不難聽出UGK甚至Dungeon Family的對他的影響. 今年在被選為XXL 2011 Freshman 10之後, KRIT再次發行一張免費的專輯, Return Of 4Eva. 水準絲毫沒有遜色, 幾乎讓我有點內疚不用花錢就可以聽到這專輯. 不同於其他歌手的主打幾乎都是派對歌或是情歌, Return Of 4Eva的主打歌Dreamin, 正是地下歌手最愛發揮的主題, rap about rap, rap about Hip Hop. A&R searching for a hit, I just need a meal Couldn’t afford to pay the rent, but pass up on a deal Cause, it wasn’t right sometimes you gotta wade the storm In a class of my own, but I was scared to raise my arm KRIT擁有地下歌手的態度, 對自己的hip hop的堅持不只在Dreamin表現出來 American Rapstar這首歌一開始的一段敘述聽的出來他對ringtone歌手頗有微詞, 這首歌KRIT證明他不只像其他新進饒舌歌手一樣可以唱catchy的副歌, 他也有rap副歌的能力. They say money make the World go round You never lost til you lose your crown And they don't love you till you're on the ground Or when you're maxing out your bank account Yeah, you do it all just to live the life Even if it means you don't live it right And even if it means you don't survive the night But if even if you do you won't survive the hype Of an American rapstar 受到UGK和8ball&MJG以及其他南岸前輩的影響, 在其他歌曲像是Rotation, My Sub, High & Low, King’s Blue, KRIT就像其他南岸歌手一樣對candy paint, wood grain或是switching lanes擁有莫名的熱情以及在歌詞裡把自己描繪成lady's man. Time Machine這首歌, KRIT把他的車子比喻成時光機器, 坐在車子裡回想自己的經歷, 回想以前他老爸給他的指導, 第三段歌詞是久違的Chamillionaire 回憶過去並且對Houston前輩shout out. Niggas out here flexin', don't be stressing what you can't be And don't be dodgin', don't believe in what you can't see Unless it's borrowed, don't be borrowin' cause ain't shit free You got your family and your friends when you need relief There'll come a time when I can't be there when you need me KRIT要rep Mississippi怎能沒有OG David Banner的認可, “If you from the south and you proud nigga go and say it loud, if you aint workin class nigga all got slugs in your mouth” David Banner 在Sookie Now第三段加入 KRIT同時也滿足了歌迷期待的Mississippi connection. 就像每個饒舌歌手一樣, KRIT也讓他的homie Big Sant在專輯裡分享一首歌, 在Made A Lot裡表現不俗. 專輯結尾幾首歌開啟conscious rap模式, Another Nigga, Free My Soul和Vent, KRIT不僅可以做有message的歌曲同時也可以相當lyrical. 結尾Vent聽起來有點像是40會幫Drake做的歌, 不過也意外的適合KRIT. How can the Devil take my brother if he's close to me When he was everything I wasn't but I hoped to be... I put my problems in box beside my tightest rhymes On a lock and key, buried deep of in my mind And when it gets too full, and I can't close the lid I spaz on my family and my closest friends Trade my materials for a peace of mind I'm so close to Heaven, Hell I need some time… Most people stop for signs, but I've driven through it If it don't touch my soul, then I can't listen to it The radio don't play the shit I used to love Or maybe I'm just growing up Bonus track Big KRIT重返KRIT Wuz Here的單曲Country Shit, 不只寫了新的歌詞, 還找了Ludacris和Bun B跨刀助陣. 自從去年在NY表演這首被噓下台以後 KRIT仍然持續累積歌迷以及前輩的認同. 也許就像他在Dreamin裡講的”just know that I was once considered a dreamer, but I paid my dues and turned so many doubters to believers” 這張專輯不只適合坐下來帶著耳機聽, 開車的時候放著讓他play, 如果你像我一樣沒有top可以drop, 拉下窗戶聽起來也很有感覺, 當然我只是個小宅宅只敢開一點縫. 消息是Big KRIT已經跟Def Jam簽約, 從他的MV 和他跟Nardwuar的interview裡, 感覺他算是hiphop界裡少數比較謙虛的歌手, 同時對自己的音樂也很有想法, 知道自己在做什麼, 我向來是不在意新進歌手會不會紅, 不過可以肯定的是他在Def Jam的主流發行會是我最期待的專輯之一. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 71.246.71.13
