Hewitt is the latest tennis star to confirm, after he accepted a wildcard to compete in the USD550,000 tournament at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani. Brian L. Marcar, managing director of BEC-TERO Entertainment, said he was excited when Hewitt, a semi-finalist in US Open, confirmed his acceptance of the invitation to compete in Thailand Open for the first time. “Lleyton Hewitt’s participation in the Thailand Open is another coup for the event,” he said. “This year’s field is shaping up as our strongest yet.” Hewitt, currently ranked world number five, has won 24 ATP titles including two Grand Slam trophies – US Open 2001 and Wimbledon 2002 – and consecutive Masters Cup victories in 2001 and 2002. “Hewitt is sure to prove a hit with Thai fans,” added Thailand Open Organising Committee Chairman Mr. Chaiyapak Siriwat. “He is a tremendous competitor who always gives 110% on the court.” Players confirmed to compete in the Thailand Open 2005 include US Open winner Roger Federer, Australian Open champion Marat Safin, British number one Tim Henman, Germany’s Tommy Haas, world #21 Robby Ginepri and Thai hero Paradorn Srichaphan. Thailand Open tickets are available at all Thai Ticketmaster outlets or by telephone on 0-2262 3456 or at www.thaiticketmaster.com Ticket prices for the qualifying rounds on 24-25 September are 300 baht. Tickets for the first round and second round matches are 500 and 800 baht.
