[分享] GRE填空技巧心得分享
各位正如火如荼準備著GRE考試的同學大家好，我是字神帝國的李碩老師。
根據老師經驗，同學在做GRE填空常會失分的原因，除了可能遇上令人費解的長句外，
還很有可能是遇到了所謂的「熟詞偏義」題。什麼是熟詞偏義呢？簡單來說，
就是一個你以為你已經會了的單字，GRE考了一個你其實並不熟悉的意思。請看以下例子：
The maps in this volume are meant not as guides but as _______: they are
designed to make the reader think anew about the city.
A. adornments
B. references
C. truisms
D. provocations
E. valedictions
本題對很多同學來說句子不長、也不難理解（中譯：這本書裡頭的地圖，
目的不在於提供指南而在於提供_______：這些地圖是為了讓讀者能對這城市有不同想法。）
，但很可能怎麼樣就是找不到答案。原因很可能是因為同學沒有真的理解provocation這個
單字的其他意涵。
你可能知道provocation這字是動詞provoke衍生的名詞，而且你高中就會，但你可能不知道
這字除了當「挑釁、激怒」解外，還有「刺激（思考?[m^」的意思（例：The results of the
study have provoked a lot of discussion.）。因此，此題選provocations
（能刺激思考的事物?[m^就再合理不過了，而這也就是所謂的「熟詞偏義」！
