[問題] 一個PP2雙格填空的文意
PP2裡面有一題雙格填空不難選出答案，但是精確的文意並不是很瞭解。
麻煩大家看一下。題目如下。
The current __(i)__ of format in electronic scholarly publication
will not last beyond the point when amateur burnout occurs and amateurs
are replaced by traditional publishing companies: in an effort to reduce
costs through economies of scale, publishing firms tend toward __(ii)__ in
the format of their electronic publication projects.
選項是
(i): (A) diversity; (B) monotony; (C) refinement.
(ii): (D) homogeneity; (E) sophistication; (F) extremes.
冒號前面的意思是「目前多樣的電子學術出版品會越來越式微。」
冒號後面的意思是「為了戮力於降低成本，出版商傾向於把電子出版品的形式單一化。」
因此可以選出A和D為答案。但是我不瞭解的地方是第二行的"last beyond the point"
、"amateur burnout"以及"amateurs are replaced by..."。
請問這三個在文中是什麼意思呢？
