The following appeared in a memo to the Saluda town council from the town’s business manager.
“Research indicates that those who exercise regularly are hospitalized less than half as often as those who don’t exercise. By providing a well-equipped gym for Saluda’s municipal employees, we should be able to reduce the cost of our group health insurance coverage by approximately 50% and thereby achieve a balanced town budget.”

1.三疊紀大滅絕:
第一段:過去科學家比較在意恐龍滅絕，但因為三疊紀岩石和化石的發現 使科學家開始對恐龍出現的時代產生興趣(重點在恐龍是否造成三疊紀的爬蟲類和兩棲列滅絕)
有科學家認為是恐龍競爭造成三疊紀動物滅絕，但有些化石顯示有些物種更早滅絕或更晚，所以可能有其他因素
第二段:有科學家質疑是乾燥的氣候變遷導致的，但又有證據顯示有些物種在氣候變遷後很久才滅絕。且氣候變遷的時間點和滅絕的時間點不一致。
第三段:有科學家認為是隕石掉落在加拿大魁北克造成的，雖然時間大致一致，但有化石證據顯示有些物種早在隕石墜落前就滅絕，而且有些動物在隕石墜落後仍存活
第四段:作者(有些科學家)認為該滅絕是更複雜的因素造成的，可能恐龍競爭、氣候變遷、隕石墜落都有影響(combination)。至於哪個因素的影響權重較大還需要further research.
2.生物類比
一段式文章
科學家長從自然物種的生物特色中找到靈感發明產品。科學家嘗試研究slime mould 去解決複雜的問題。像是設計東京的鐵路網。
當P. polycephalum(slime mould的一種)覓食(foraging)的時候會用protoplasm來發展運送養分的管道。科學家模擬東京各大城市的位置並在上面設置了flakes(P生物的食物)在各處，讓P發展運送管道，結果surprisingly bear a resemblance to 東京鐵路網。P發展的運送管道還包含了一些backup的路線，以防突發狀況發生(有resilience彈性)。科學家不是說東京鐵路應該要設計的和P發展的一樣，但此法可運用在一些不用人為干擾的狀況(The next thing is to discover and use these rules to enable other networks to self-organise in an “intelligent”
fashion without human intervention)
邏輯:
