Steve Kerr is off to the fastest start ever for a first-year coach
, but it's still not a personal best.
His Golden State Warriors will try to match the third-best 23-game
start in league history Sunday night in New Orleans, which would
get Kerr a step closer to reaching the 23-2 start he experienced
as a player 19 years ago.

As if facing Golden State (20-2) isn't enough of a chore, the
Pelicans (11-11) could be without their best player, Anthony Davis.

The Warriors are the 12th team in NBA history to begin a season 20-2.
Another of those teams was the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls, who matched the
best 25-game start in league history and went on to set the
single-season wins record at 72-10.

Saturday's 105-98 win in Dallas extended Golden State's franchise-best
winning streak to 15 and humbled the top-scoring team in the league.

"It's probably not as bad as the pressure if you have a 15-game losing
streak," Kerr said. "We don't feel any pressure. We're having fun. Our

In terms of offensive rating, the Warriors (107.2) and Pelicans (107.0)
have been very close and are among the best in the league. New Orleans,
though, is .500 because its defensive rating (107.1) is among the worst.

It might have more of an issue protecting the basket with Davis listed as
questionable because of a chest contusion that forced him from Friday's
119-114 victory over Cleveland in the first quarter.

The Pelicans overcame the loss of Davis as Tyreke Evans finished with 31
points and 10 assists, and Ryan Anderson tied a career high with eight
3-pointers on his way to 30 points.

"Everybody was moving the ball, getting good shots, playing together,"
Evans said. "When we play like that, we are unstoppable."

It was their third win in four games, though that's unlikely to make them
forget about a 112-85 loss in Oakland on Dec. 4 for an eighth straight
defeat in the series. The Warriors have also won six straight in
New Orleans.

Davis had 30 points and 15 rebounds in the meeting earlier this month after
closing last season with a 31-17 effort against Golden State.

David Lee (hamstring) and Andrew Bogut (knee tendinitis) remain out for the
Warriors.
