[法國] Anelka joins France squad
Bolton striker Nicolas Anelka has been selected by France coach Raymond Domenech for the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifying fixtures against Scotland and Faroe Islands.
The news comes hot on the heels of an announcement this morning that captain and midfielder Patrick Vieira had picked up a knock in training and is a doubt for the Scotland match on Saturday with an ankle problem.
William Gallas, Sidney Govou, Louis Saha and Willy Sagnol have also pulled out this week. Bordeaux's Rio Mavuba was expected to be added to the squad after Vieira's accident, but Domenech has seemingly decided instead to recall the man he snubbed for his World Cup squad.
After the coach initially snubbed Anelka for Germany, the former Arsenal star complained massively and then, when striker Djibril Cisse broke his leg during the tournament, the coach preferred Sidney Govou.
In 2005 Domenech restarted Anelka's international career after three years in the wilderness under previous coach Jacques Santini.
