Auxerre win Cup, clinch UEFA spot
PARIS, June 4 (Reuters)
An injury-time goal by striker Bonaventure Kalou gave AJ Auxerre a 2-1 win
over second division Sedan 2-1 in the French Cup final on Saturday and a
berth in the UEFA Cup next season. Kalou came on as a substitute late on
after playing a World Cup qualifier for the Ivory Coast just 24 hours
earlier.

"It was a hard contest, with three nice goals," said Auxerre coach Guy Roux,
who has steered the Burgundy side to all four of the French Cup triumphs.

Auxerre, who finished a disappointing eighth in Ligue 1, proved too
experienced for Sedan in an entertaining game at the Stade de France.

Le Havre, the oldest club in French soccer, remain the only second division
team to have won the Cup, back in 1959, despite many reaching the final.
這麼多年來，雖然有許多法乙球隊挺進決賽
還是只有勒哈維這個球隊拿下法國盃冠軍
Sedan, also second division finalists in 1999 when they lost to Nantes,
have not lifted the coveted trophy since 1961 whereas Auxerre had won their
previous finals in 1994, 1996 and 2003.
色當之前曾在99年打入決賽，不過當年敗在南特腳下
而歐塞爾這十一年來四度進軍決賽，全都凱旋而歸
"We wasted our season. We missed out on promotion and failed to win this
final," said Sedan midfielder Pierre Njanka.

"We came back into the game with a superb goal. In the last minutes, we
should have locked our defence. Maybe we lacked a bit of experience," said
goalkeeper Patrick Regnault.

Auxerre were the first in action when striker Benjani hit the woodwork with
a powerful header on the half hour. The Zimbabwean opened the scoring eight
minutes from the interval after a slalom through a shaky Sedan defence to
slot the ball past Regnault from close range.

After the break, Sedan coach Serge Romano decided to strengthen his attack
and replaced midfielder Marcus Mokake with forward Cedric Sabin.
The Ardennes side equalised in the 64th minute courtesy of an astonishing
30-metre drive by Stephane Noro that went in just under Fabien Cool's
crossbar.
