Ryan Madson examination reveals torn ligament in right elbow, to have "Tommy
John" surgery.

The Reds got the worst news possible on closer Ryan Madson. The ligament in
his elbow is torn off of the bone and he will need Tommy John surgery that
will end his season before it begins. Madson was examined Saturday morning in
Cincinnati by team medical director Dr. Tim Kremcheck.

Chipper Jones will begin the final season of his career on the disabled list
because of an injury he suffered just before announcing he will retire at the
end of this year. The Braves third baseman will undergo surgery on Monday to
repair a torn meniscus in his left knee.
