8.1Beta1 DVD does not finish boot sequence

I have a brand new Dell Inspiron 570.
When trying to install FreeBSD-8.1beta1 from DVD, the boot sequence 
starts, but I get spinning "*". (I got the same result from a 
7.2-Release DVD).

The same machine has similar problems with number of other OS 
distributions, but installation works from an external DVD so the
problem is related to the DVD drive.
Windows-7 and Ubuntu 10.4 can install from the drive.

Dell lists the Drive as:
V2P99    Assembly,Dvd+/-Rw,16X,BARE,Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology

Windows-7 identifies the DVD drive as:
TSSTcorp DVD+-RW TS-H653G ATA

What I see o the screen is:

Building the boot loader arguments
Looking up /BOOT/LOADER... Found
