Controversial explicit role for Ewan McGregor
PHIL MILLER, Arts Correspondent October 04 2006
EWAN McGregor, who has been known to enjoy disrobing for the camera, is to
star in another sexually frank movie, which begins shooting in New York this
month.
The movie is to be set in the clandestine sex clubs of the Big Apple, and has
already alarmed Hollywood – it was originally to be made by 20th Century
Fox, which eventually decided against it because of its lurid storyline.
The Scottish actor, who has filmed notably explicit scenes in movies such as
Trainspotting, The Pillow Book and Velvet Goldmine, is to star in the
psychological thriller The Tourist, written by Patrick Marber.
His co-stars will be Michelle Williams, acclaimed for her role in Brokeback
Mountain, and Hugh Jackman, Wolverine in the X-Men trilogy.
The plot revolves around accounting consultant McGregor, who falls in love
before she disappears and he is accused of her murder.
The film has been scripted by Mark Bomback, Jason Keller, and Marber, and
production begins on October 13, with Marcel Langenegger directing his first
film. The film is financed independently.
