[Talk] Advice on TOEIC
Well, since I got an overwhelming response (I'm kidding, it was only like 5
people) to my previous post, I thought I'd post my thoughts on the TOEIC test
That, and I'm delaying the inevitable...I'm pulling an all nighter right now
working on my powerpoint presentation. Stupid paper on saccade movement >_<
Anyways, I thought the TOEIC test was pretty easy in terms of the reading
portion. The grammar was mostly common sense, nothing too tricky or the like.
I get why some people may complain about the listening portion. Speeches were
pretty fast and just flew by. Plus, you aren't allowed to make little notes
on the testing booklet. That might inconvenience some people with poor short
term memory.
My advice is...practice your short term memory ^_^
Right now one way I can think of is to watch a totally unfamiliar TV show with
someone else (without subtitles), and have that someone else quiz you on
things that were said in the show?
Please don't watch anything with subtitles. Your attention will be drawn to
the words and your brain will start processing in Chinese. You want to train
your brain to think in English.
I will be writing an essay on cognitive psychology tomorrow, another all
nighter. *sigh* Does anyone have thoughts on comparisons between episodic
memory, autobiographical memory, and semantic memory? I'm kidding.
Is it bad that I think on the whole TOEIC is middle school ESL level?
Does anyone have any good books that they'd like to share? I got a request for
introducing some good literature cuz I suggested that reading well written
books is an easier way to pick up common grammar usage.
I have a childhood favorite. The Song of the Lioness quartet by Tamora Pierce.
It's adventure mixed with fantasy.
