My name is Lee, 26years old. I can not undertsand why I am not on my bed for a good sleep but craving to type some English here. I has just finish a John Grisham's novel, King of Tort, yesterday. This is my first Grisham's book. While Grisham is celebrate for his stories on lawyers's career or legal activities, I don't think this book interesting. The story is concerning a young public defender who graduates from Georgetown Law school and gets a girl from a snobish family. He always attempt to advance to some large law firms for better pay and indignity (thaugh no reasons are told why he fail to do so). Someaday, in a random murder case, a secret guy approached him, providing him some inside information about several large drug companies, which rendered him an opportunity to grab millions of dollars form the class tort lawsuit to these companies. Then, the public defender became the King of Tort, earning more than 20 million dollars within 17 months. The wealth shift him to another world, where yachts and jets are necessities, and beautiful women ( they are called "chick" in book) can be easily purchased. The young king of tort throw his original contempt over wealth away, as well as something pure, and pursued more money case by case. Finally, his greed destroied everything. Loss on huge lawsuit, being sued by his previous clients and investigation from FBI almost came simutaneously. The end is, he wnet bankrupt and leave the US forever. Is doesn't sound like an attractive story, does it? Just a circle of making money and spending it. Too many pages contribute to descriprion about tycoons' life:yahct, jet, islands, vila, ect, all are personal. However, those parts may be the most interesting parts of this book. In Taiwan, it is hard to imagine that being a lawyer would permit you to own those toys. Anyway, the precise and subtle shifts on the protagonist's desposition do not seem to be well developed, which makes me doubt if this is the same guy. Anyway, just to share something. Time to sleep. -- "I'm still a drunk and a junkie, man. You know the difference between the two? A drunk will steal your wallet." "And a junkie?" "Oh, a junkie'll steal your wallet, too. And then he'll help you look for it." -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 125.232.207.34
