這是雜誌讀到的一段文字

這裡的instead不明白為何出現
雜誌的翻譯是
......，卻因為被誤以為愛好復仇而遭到譴責
這個instead是中文不會出現的概念嗎?
還是有轉折語氣的概念?
然而...... 卻(而是被誤解為...)
