A common mistake in using the words “alphabet” and “letter” is to say “the
alphabet e” rather than “the letter e.” The alphabet is actually the
collective word for the set of letters in any writing system. For example,
the English alphabet has 26 letters (A to Z).
The word alphabet comes from the Greek words Alpha and Beta.
Alpha + Beta = Alphabet. Alpha and Beta are common symbols used in science.
They are the first two letters of the Greek alphabet.
