What interests you about working as a math tutor?
I enjoy working with children because I like helping them learn.
That is a good reason to become a math tutor. Tell me about a time when you help
ed a child understand something difficult.
Students are often confused about factors and multiples, so I can clearly explai
n the definitions of both and give examples to help them understand and remember
these concepts.
Your answer is well organized. A more natural version is: “I will guide the stu
dents step by step as they find the factors of a number. Once they finish, I wil
l check whether they understand how to find factors. Then, I will walk them thro
ugh finding multiples step by step. Finally, I will ask them to explain the diff
erence between finding factors and finding multiples.”
“Understand” is simpler and more direct than “get the hang of” in a job inte
rview. Also, after “the difference between,” use the -ing form: “finding fact
ors and finding multiples.”
How would you encourage a student who becomes frustrated with math?
Your explanation is clear and shows a supportive teaching style. A smoother vers
ion is: “I break difficult math problems into clear, simple steps and explain t
he key concepts in a way that makes sense to the students. Then I encourage them
to keep practicing similar problems until they really understand them, so they
can feel a sense of accomplishment.”
Use “understand” instead of “got it” in a job interview because it sounds mo
re professional. Also, “until they understand them” uses the present tense aft
er “until” for a future situation.
