Debian attempts to bring the release engineering and QA to some 10,000 packages (or whatever it's up to now) that BSD's do for the kernel and base system. It works, but has become unwieldy. The technology might seem a bit strange coming from BSD, because it's based on managing tarballs, rather than source code in CVS. It works fairly well, though. I have no complaints about Debian's archive software. I've been writing some new package software, based on my experiences with rpm, dpkg/apt, Solaris pkgadd, and BSD ports. I'm aiming at a more flexible, less crufty equivilent to dpkg/apt. - -- ---Nathan -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Thunderbird - http://enigmail.mozdev.org iQDVAwUBQlGofaUqhOQsTZ+hAQIMBQX+Pm3zFK2qJrt7CnTOk5Rc3NzAOUsc3EUV Wja9tDPmhIbuAw+q2aM+d3wCfjmLG5Es4+xbr6s62r0+hy6rFE2ltn09N0noGinn tqT6WbSgvL6iyzbKbXbWsQmmW+t0DnOJPyqnoQzqNXJt5Ue6+v2t6wGmSGICjELa U+sJaqRhkvO2LcY3aKBZ9HiA89Uo9p/IGqHeVCrWZMT7R36NYqoFR1G9ckGtg7jA cEmuv6978WwR07Rp1oZ3Qn7IIrnwZ7tV =1w5E -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
