Tres Cantus Laudendi (Three Songs of Praise)
Laudate Pueri and Jubilate were commissioned and premiered by the Utah
Symphony Chorus in Symphony Hall, Salt Lake City, May 1989. The work has
since been widely acclaimed for its richness of tonality and intricate
weaving of its major motifs. Laudate Domine was composed in early 1990
and the work in its three movement form was performed by the Brigham
Young University Concert Choir in March of the same year. Tonight's
performance combines these three songs of praise. The work was originally
scored for brass, organ and percussion
Mack Wilberg is Associate Professor and Director of choral activities at
BYU where he also conducts the concert choir. He began his conducting
activities at BYU in 1984 as director of the men's chorus. He developed
the chorus into the largest collegiate male choral organization in the
country, with highly competitive auditions and packed houses .
Mr. Wilberg's long association with BYU began with his undergraduate
degree. He also holds graduate degrees from the University of Southern
California.
He is currently active as a pianist, chamber musician, clinician, composer,
arranger and guest conductor, both in the united States and abroad. He
regularly composes works for both the men's chorus and concert choir.
