The NBA trade deadline is at 1 p.m. Thursday, and it should come and go with
no move by the Suns.
The Amaré Stoudemire trade speculation cooled greatly this week, especially
after the firing of coach Terry Porter. It appears that the Suns, for now,
want immediate results rather than long-term financial relief.
"I don't anticipate doing anything," Suns General Manager Steve Kerr said.
"Things have been quiet.
"I would like to see how this team can do, because I think we've got a chance
to be pretty good."
Hearing after Wednesday’s game that he is likely to remain a Sun after today
’s deadline, Stoudemire said, “I got one more day, baby. That’d be great.
It’s kind of sad that it came to this but I’ve been a professional my whole
career. You never heard me in any trouble, any DUIs (look for wood to knock)
… I’ve been extremely professional. I’ve been respectable and respected
all my peers my whole career. I hate the fact that trade rumors did come up
but it happens sometimes.
“Sometimes, you’ve got to test the waters with your star player and see
what happens. Obviously, a lot of teams were looking forward to having me. I
got drafted by a lottery pick for the Phoenix Suns and hopefully we can still
cash in on this lottery pick.”
