[實驗] Question about preparing chloroalkane

When 2-chloro-2-methylpropane is prepared by reacting hydrochloric acid
with 2-methylpropan-2-ol, why only sodium hydrogencarbonate canbe used
to remove acid impurities but not a stronger alkali like sodium hydroxide?
