The Celtics point guard picked up the NBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Week award today for a week in which the Celtics posted a 2-1 record. Rondo had 50 assists in three games, which tied John Stockton (1989-90) for the best three-game start in NBA history. In addition to the assist numbers, Rondo averaged 10.7 points and 6.3 rebounds in the three games. He recorded a triple-double Friday during a game in which his 24 assists fell short of Bob Cousy's team record of 28. Lakers big man Pau Gasol was named the player of the week for the Western Conference, averaging 25.3 points and 10.3 rebounds 2.JO a go; Shaq questionable Jermaine O'Neal (knee) practiced at full speed today and is expected to play at Detroit Tuesday night. "He practiced so he'll play tomorrow," coach Doc Rivers said. "Obviously, tomorrow morning, if it swells or something, he can't, but right now he looked good." The status of Shaquille O'Neal (shin bruise) has not been determined, Semih Erden replacing him in practice.
