耶穌從那裏起身，來到自己的家鄉，門徒也跟了他來。
到了安息日，他便開始在會堂裏教訓人：眾人聽了，就驚訝說：
「他這一切是從那裏來的呢？所賜給他的是什麼樣的智慧？
怎麼藉他的手行出這樣的奇能？
這人不就是那個木匠嗎？
他不是瑪利亞的兒子，雅各伯、若瑟、猶達、西滿的兄弟嗎？
他的姊妹不是也都在我們這裏嗎？」
他們便對他起了反感。耶穌對他們說：
「先知除了在自己的本鄉、本族、和本家外，是沒有不受尊敬的。」
耶穌在那裏不能行什麼奇能，祇給少數的幾個病人覆手，治好了他們。
因他們的無信心而感到詑異，遂周遊四周各村施教去了。
1 Leaving that district, he went to his home town, and his disciples
accompanied him.
2 With the coming of the Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and most
of them were astonished when they heard him. They said, 'Where did the man
get all this? What is this wisdom that has been granted him, and these
miracles that are worked through him?
3 This is the carpenter, surely, the son of Mary, the brother of James and
Joset and Jude and Simon? His sisters, too, are they not here with us?' And
they would not accept him.
4 And Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is despised only in his own country,
among his own relations and in his own house';
5 and he could work no miracle there, except that he cured a few sick people
by laying his hands on them.
6 He was amazed at their lack of faith. He made a tour round the villages,
teaching.
