Oleg Blokhin has lost twice against Italy this year,
but claims Marcello Lippi's side was much stronger than
Roberto Donadoni's.
“This victory was deserved, as we dropped our heads after
going 1-0 down and they proved they had more quality.
However, the Azzurri side we faced in Germany was superior to this team.”
Massimo Oddo and Luca Toni secured the 2-0 result,
but it was more of a struggle than the 3-0 win
that Lippi's men earned in the World Cup quarter-finals.
“Considering the difficulties we had before the game,
we played some good football. We were up to the task,
but perhaps it would've been better to have a less impressive performance
and come home with some points,” said the Coach.
The Ukraine were struck by a flu virus that ruled out Andriy Shevchenko
and the former Milan man has still not recovered.
“Our next game is also very tough against Scotland.
I'm worried, as I still don't know if Shevchenko will be able to play.
This is a difficult Group, there's no getting away from it.”
Scotland currently lead the standings with a 100 per cent record
after three games, followed by France on six points,
Italy and Lithuania with four, Ukraine and Georgia three.
The Faroe Islands are yet to get off the mark.
