: Once upon a time, in a faraway village by a great river, there lived two broth
: ers named Antek and Jonek.

: Jonek was a kind hearted and patient man, always eager to help others, and it
: was with gratitude that he took over the running of his parents’ farm once th
: ey had become too old to care for the animals. Jonek was a successful farmer a
: nd soon married a beautiful woman who was as gentle and hardworking as he.

: Antek helped his brother at the beginning, but he soon tired of farming and mo
: ved on from one job to another, first becoming a carpenter’s apprentice, then
: a baker’s assistant, and then a blacksmith’s assistant. Being a lazy man, A
: ntek was unable to stay in any one job and would always move on when the work
: became too hard or tiresome. Finally he settled down and married the daughter
: of a very rich widow and lived a comfortable and luxurious life which required
: very little work.

: Jonek, despite being a diligent and compassionate man, had no such luck. He to
: iled in the fields but his crops did not yield very much come harvest time. Th
: e wheat that did grow was soon beaten down by angry storms and merciless winds
: , and his cattle were plagued by disease and hunger.

: 世尊！如來善護念諸菩薩，善付囑諸菩薩。世尊！善男子、善女人，發阿耨多羅三藐三菩
: 提心，應云何住？云何降伏其心？」

: 佛言：「善哉，善哉。須菩提！如汝所說：如來善護念諸菩薩，善付囑諸菩薩，汝今諦聽

: Adam lived in a small village in the South of Poland near to the big city of K
: rakow. Adam’s favorite part of the day was dinnertime. Not because his mother
: made the best food in the whole world, but because, at dinner time, the whole
: family would sit around the television and watch the news. No school lesson c
: ould compare to the stories Adam watched on the news: exotic looking people fr
: om different cultures, natural disasters in countries he had never visited, an
: d insights into the coolest celebrities
: and their extraordinary lives. It was one such story that changed Adam’s life
: forever…

: One evening, just before harvest, the family was sitting round enjoying steami
: ng bowls of chicken soup with homemade macaroni when the news began. The top s
: tory was about a mysterious robbery from Wawel Castle in the nearby city of Kr
: akow. During the night thieves had snuck in and taken the treasure from Smok’
: s lair!

: Everybody in Poland knows the story of Smok the Dragon who lived in Wawel Cast
: le many hundreds of years ago. Smok lived in the caves beneath the castle and
: used to eat the King’s cattle. The King offered his daughter’s hand in marri
: age to the man who could slay the mighty dragon. Many brave knights and noblem
: en tried and failed, but in the end it was a simple cobbler who had slain the

: new King believing that the gold brought good luck to his people.

: The reporter was at Waywel Castle. She was interviewing a tall policeman. The
: policeman said: ‘We believe that the thieves came into the castle during the

: The camera zoomed in on a few gold coins that were scattered on the floor.

: Standing next to the policeman was a very forlorn castle curator. He was shaki

: Adam’s father gasped: ‘All that treasure gone!’

: asked Adam. ‘Will they know that Smok isn’t there anymore? The castle might
: be attacked and we would have a new dragon after all these years!’
: Basia, Adam’s older sister, chuckled to herself and said: ‘Well then, the Ki
: ng had better go to the bank and get some more gold coins out before it is too

: and older brothers and sister were all going out to the fields to bring in th
: e harvest. They would be gone for the whole day. The fields were far away from
: the farmhouse so they had to leave very early. It would be hard work for ever
