Jeter sits another day with illness By Peter Abraham ‧ pabraham@lohud.com ‧ June 28, 2009 NEW YORK — Derek Jeter was one of the first Yankees to arrive at Citi Field yesterday and quickly informed manager Joe Girardi that he wanted back in the starting lineup against the Mets after missing Friday night's game with the flu. But team doctor Chris Ahmad overruled the team captain, saying Jeter needed the rest. Ramiro Pena was back at shortstop for the 5-0 victory. "I went with what the doctor said," Girardi said. "I know Jeet isn't happy about it. But he was pretty sick last night." In a raspy voice, Jeter admitted to having a headache and a cough. But he disagreed with Girardi's decision. "That's on him, man. I told him I could play. That's all his decision," Jeter said. Left fielder Johnny Damon also missed the game with the same illness.
