Sure, Boston was about to fall to the Rangers, 7-2, but still -- Papi had just lined a single to center field, hoping to spa rk a ninth-inning rally. And yet, for whatever reason, he was deeply disappoin ted in that particular piece of lumber: You know what they say: When you're having possibly the best season of your ca reer at age 40, nothing short of a dinger is acceptable.
