Yu-Cheng Chang (SS) The Indians signed Yu-Cheng Chang for a $500,000 signing bonus out of Taiwan in 2013 and quickly challenged him with a full season assignment this past year at Lake County in the Midwest League. He held his own as a 19-year-old, slashing .234/.296/.364 in 105 games. Scouting Report: Chang doesn’t have a carrying tool but has good bat control with the ability to make hard contact. At times, he can expand the strike zone which has resulted in more strikeouts than his approach and swing mechanics would suggest. He does have good bat speed with the chance to hit 8 to 12 home runs. He’s an above-average runner but is still learning the fine art of stealing bases and therefore has had limited success. If you add it all up, Chang profiles as a utility player but with enough upside to give the Indians something to dream-on.
