BVB at FCN: "We want to remain top of the league on Saturday night"
Less than 63 hours after the final whistle of the Champions
League match at SSC Napoli, Borussia Dortmund have to play another away game,
this time in Germany′s top tier at 1FC Nuremberg. While the "Club" are one
of three winless teams in the Bundesliga, BVB have enjoyed their best-ever
start to a season. "We want to get a result there and remain top of the
league on Saturday night," said BVB sporting director Michael Zorc.
The goals are clear: one team will be looking to correct their poor start to
the season - with a chance to move up to 12th place, showing that Nuremberg′
s situation isn′t as bad as it looks - while the other will be aiming to
make it six out of six. "We have always had to work hard in Nuremberg in the
last couple of years, but were mainly successful," said Zorc. "The challenge
will be to find our way from an away game in the Champions League, combined
with a loss, back to Bundesliga business and have our focus 100 percent on
this game."
BVB have a few injury question marks heading into the weekend. "We don′t
know for sure who we have available for selection," said Zorc. The biggest
concern is in central defence, with Subotic having a cut under the eye and
Sokratis nursing a bruised foot. "But we are hopeful that he will be fit to
play on Saturday," said Zorc on the Greek defender, adding: "The same goes
for Mats Hummels who took a knock to the sciatic nerve forcing him to limp
off against Napoli. Both have not been ruled out yet for the match."
Jürgen Klopp could be short on central defenders and holding midfielders, in
attack, however, he has plenty of options to rotate. It′s possible, for
example, that Henrikh Mkhitaryan will be given a breather, and it′s also not
unlikely that Eric Durm will make his starting debut in one of the full back
positions.
An interesting footnote to Saturday′s match is the reunion with Daniel
Ginczek. "He has developed greatly," said Zorc in praise of BVB′s former
youth and under-23 player who left the club on "mutual consent" wanting to
play on a consistent basis. "He will of course be on fire and look to make a
good game against his home club."
Nuremberg are expecting a capacity crowd for the first time this season. "The
thought of playing in front of a 50,000 crowd, that is pure motivation for
us," said Nuremberg coach Michael Wiesinger. The stage is set for another
"football fest".
