Greetings from Cambridge!
Hello there,
How are you doing, my dear friends? Time really goes fast. It's almost
been a year since I saw you last time (maybe even longer for some people).
I know a lot of things have changed... Sorry for keeping silent for such a
long time. But, I have a "bad" excuse - I was working hard to finish my PhD
and write my thesis. It's done and I have passed my oral exam. So, I am a
doctor now!
This is a little news from me. Many of you have bigger ones: llo has got
married (Congratulations!!), chars is getting married (Congratulations!!),
Ann and Kou have got their second angel (congratulations!!!), etc. Sometimes
I think the God, if any, is quite fair. He/she makes you gain something and
lose others. I have got my PhD degree, but I have also lost the time being
with my family and friends in Taiwan for four years. Your life just depends
on what decisions you make. I don't know if I have made the good ones though.
But, I am happy for my friends who have made their personal choices.
I believe we are all old enough and have reached the turning point. Most
people around me are getting married, having babies, getting a better job
and settling down. It's like that you are pushed forward by an invisible
force. Can you imagine that we were just freshmen in the University 10 years
ago? And now standing at this turning point, where will we be 10 years later?
I wish I could know. However, things often happen unexpectedly.
I was visiting a friend in Sri Lanka. It's such a beautiful and friendly
country. I left just before Christmas. Who knew there was going to be a
catastrophe? The beautiful coastline I visited was completely destroyed by
the tsunami within minutes. I think I must be lucky to leave early then.
But, I really feel sorry for those people who lost their family and friends...
Well, I am not going to make you feel sad. I'm writing because I haven't
seen you for ages and I want to write something. Recently, I saw two nice
films: Sideways and Closer. They probably are being shown in Taiwan. When I
saw these two films, they made me think about myself and people around me.
They made me think life like films and vice versa. In a few years, similar
stories probably will happen to us or be heard. If you were in the film, which
role would you pick up? I don't think you can be the director or the producer!
I will still be in Cambridge for a while until any further decision is made.
All the best for everyone and Happy Chinese New Year!!
