XDDD Hi, I lived in the greenhouse backpacker during 29 April to 1 May. My name is XX-XXXX,XX and English name is Eva. The first name is XX-XXXX, and the last name is XX. I am from Taiwan. At about 1:00pm 29 April, when I was checking in at the reception, the person who helped me check in scolded me because I put my English name on the reservation website. He said that the "first name" I put on the website is my English name, but in the checking-in paper, I wrote my "first name" printed on the passport. And scolded at me with the reason that no matter where I am, no matter if I have a Chinese name or from which country, I should always use the same name and it really made him confused. At the time, I felt REALLY uncomfortable about the words he spoke to me, but I had no chance and my English is not really good enough to express clearly and fight back at that moment. But his words totally ruined my mood of traveling in Melbourne!!! In addition, I felt my culture was seriously insulted!\ I admit that I put my English name as the reservation name is not appropriate, but as I checked the reservation website again, the page of filling in the basic personal information doesn't have the blank which calls "first name" , and only has "surname" and "contact name". As you know, Chinese name is read in an opposite way and also we have tones. SO it's really hard for foreigners to pronounce Chinese name correctly. And if you can't pronounce my Chinese name correctly, how can you confirm that the one in the phone is the right customer? Therefore, I put my English name as my contact name. IS THAT WRONG? Secondly, in the checking-in paper, owing to the request of filling in the passport numbers, I think it's better to put my passport information. I strongly recommend that he can use another way to correct me instead of scolding me since he didn't ask me to change anything after the scolding. Moreover, as a reception person who deals with international visitors, shouldn't he has a inter-cultural attitude to face the cultural difference? Consequently, I ask for an apology and request to change the "contact name" on the website immediately if you want customers to fill in their real "first name" -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 61.228.27.179
