Atletico Madrid vs Real Zaragoza Preview
Atletico Madrid are waiting on the fitness of striker Sergio Aguero ahead of
their clash against Real Zaragoza.
Aguero has been struggling with a leg injury picked up against Athletic
Bilbao a fortnight ago, and although he started last weekend's home match
with Barcelona, the Argentina international made little impression and was
omitted from Wednesday's trip to Valencia.
Atletico coach Quique Sanchez Flores has delayed name his squad for the
Zaragoza match until tomorrow, but confirmed Aguero is making steady progress.
"He's training with the squad and he's feeling increasingly better. We won't
name our squad until tomorrow because we are training tomorrow morning, so I
cannot say if he will be involved," said Sanchez Flores.
Atletico went into last weekend's matches at the top of the standings after
starting the season with back-to-back wins, but a 2-1 defeat to Barca
combined with a 1-1 draw against Valencia has dropped the Rojiblancos down to
sixth, three points off the summit.
Zaragoza have had a poor start to the campaign, picking up just two points
from a favourable fixture list that has seen them face Deportivo La Coruna,
Malaga, Racing Santander and Hercules so far.
Nevertheless, Sanchez Flores has warned his side: "We are facing an
uncomfortable opponent who are in need of points. Despite their position in
the table, they have players of enormous quality."
Zaragoza coach Jose Aurelio Gay, whose side now face Atletico, Athletic
Bilbao, Barcelona and Valencia in four of their next fixtures, said: "We need
to play a bit better and we need more luck."
