1st rd #9 Kyler Murray Oklahoma (OK) CF R/R 4YR JR 5' 11 195lbs DOB: 08/07/97 BA National Rank:77 Signed for/Slot money: 4.66M/4.7615M mlb.com: http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/262722544/v1974842783 Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 50 | Run: 70 | Arm: 40 | Field: 55 | Overall: 50 The best athlete in the 2015 Draft, Murray drew first-round interest from several clubs but opted out of the process because he was also the nation's top-rated dual threat quarterback prospect and wanted to play football and baseball at Texas A&M. Despite playing regularly as a freshman for the Aggies, he opted to transfer to Oklahoma, where he had to sit out 2016 before backing up Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield last fall. After looking overmatched at the plate in his return to baseball with the Sooners last spring and in the Cape Cod League last summer, he has shown dramatic improvement as a redshirt sophomore. Though he continues to juggle two sports and has lost a lot of at-bats while doing so, Murray has made impressive adjustments at the plate. He's making better contact and no longer is easy prey for breaking balls, doing a better job of recognizing them and not chasing them off the plate. He has the plus-plus speed to create havoc on the bases and the bat speed and strength to produce average power. The son of former Texas A&M quarterback and Brewers farmhand Kevin Murray and the nephew of two-time first-rounder and five-year big leaguer Calvin Murray, Kyler still needs to reduce his strikeouts further and is a work in progress defensively. He's learning reads and routes but has the quickness to outrun his mistakes and eventually could become at least a solid center fielder. His arm has regressed on the diamond and currently plays below average. With his tools and the surprising progress he has made in 2018, Murray once again is in position to command a multimillion-dollar bonus. However, it may be virtually impossible to get him to give up football when he's a leading contender to helm one of college football's top offenses. He'll turn 21 shortly after the Draft and needs to get going with his baseball career if that's going to be his future. TLDR Murray was a five star QB recruit in high school and will finally start at QB this spring, so he's very unlikely to sign but the tools are very loud and he played better than expected this spring in his first extended playing time in baseball. Full Report Murray was a nationally-known superstar quarterback in high school and, though he played shortstop as well, it was assumed that Murray would be the heir apparent to Johnny Manziel at Texas A&M. A shoulder injury limited Murray to DH'ing as a senior in high school and Murray formally opted out of the draft by refusing to submit to MLB's pre-draft medical disclosure. He went to A&M but split time with Kyle Allen as a freshman. Each of them transferred, Murray to Oklahoma, where he backed up Heisman winner and #1 overall pick, Baker Mayfield. For much of this time, Murray wasn't playing baseball. Football at A&M and the time missed due to NCAA transerring rules limited Murray to 64 college plate appearances before this season. Despite it, he has been electric, showing even more physical ability than he had in high school and performing, slashing .290/.390/.550. He shows everything scouts could want to see after this kind of layoff and his only clear weakness is swing-and-miss against good off-speed stuff, both somewhat allowed with his power-based approach. And even more forgiveable when you consider he hasn't seen good pitching on a regular basis at any point in his baseball career. Given these factors, there's a reasonable chance he may be able to close that hole in his game with reps. Murray is projected, but not a lock, to win Oklahoma's QB job in the fall. Teams aren't sure how much it would take to get him to give up football or if there's even a number that would do it, but some teams are kicking around multi-million dollar offers to see if they can buy him out. Given his size, baseball likely offers the most financial upside unless he's a Heisman level performer this year. With some recent changes to the CBA, spreading a bonus over 5 years and letting him play football (like the Blue Jays did with CF Anthony Alford) isn't really an option anymore. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=206936 age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg 2017 Oklahoma Big12 19 49 6 0 0 0 12 1 13 20 .122 .317 .122 2018 Oklahoma Big12 20 189 56 13 3 10 10 4 28 56 .296 .398 .556 http://www.soonersports.com/pdf9/5473026.pdf?DB_OEM_ID=31000 ---------- 2nd rd #50 Jameson Hannah Dallas Baptist (TX) OF L/L 4YR JR 5' 9 185lbs DOB: 08/10/97 BA National Rank:48 Signed for/Slot money: 1.8M/$1.4142M mlb.com: https://www.mlb.com/video/2018-draft-hannah-of/c-1974482683 Scouting grades: Hit: 55 | Power: 45 | Run: 60 | Arm: 40 | Field: 55 | Overall: 50 Dallas Baptist never has had a position player selected in the first three rounds, a drought that should end with Hannah, who also has a chance to become the first first-rounder in school history. He was the Missouri Valley Conference's co-freshman of the year in 2016 and has continued to get better in each of his next two seasons. He also has a track record of performing well with wood bats in summer play, overcoming a slow start in the Cape Cod League last season to bat .392 during a season-ending 20-game hitting streak. Athletic college players who can hit are always in demand, and Hannah fits that profile. He recognizes pitches and manages the strike zone well, using his quick left-handed swing to repeatedly barrel the ball. He has the strength for at least 15-homer power and perhaps more and also should provide plenty of doubles. Hannah gets plus to plus-plus grades for his speed and has been a successful if not especially prolific basestealer in college. He also uses his quickness well in center field, where he gets good jumps and can track down balls from gap to gap. His arm is his lone below-average tool but isn't a huge handicap in center. He was one of just two NCAA Division I players to total 20 homers and 15 steals in 2017, joining Mississippi State star and Twins supplemental first-rounder Brent Rooker, but Eierman's stock has taken a hit after he changed his setup and hasn't shown the same power this spring. Eierman comes from a baseball family, as his father John was a Red Sox 13th-round choice in 1991 and his brother Johnny was a Rays third-rounder two decades later. Eierman's bat speed and strength create natural power from the right side of the plate, but he has sold out for home runs this spring with negative results. He widened his setup, adopted more of a crouch and has been overly aggressive and pull-happy. Though he doesn't always get out of the box quickly when he takes a big hack, he can show plus speed once he gets going. Eierman may not have true shortstop quickness but he has a chance to stay at the position with his good body control, soft hands and cannon arm. He may wind up at third base, where his tools could make him a Gold Glover. His grinder makeup is another asset. Hasn't performed as hoped and likely moving to third. Full Report Eierman entered 2018 as a potential top ten pick after he perfomed in front of decision makers who were in to see Jake Burger last year. He displayed all-fields power and a chance to stay at short, especially for a growing amount of teams who are more inclusive about who they consider a viable shortstop because of newer methods of defensive positioning. As a junior, Eierman's approach became very pull-heavy and opinions on his defense have shaded toward third base. He may need to rework how his hands set up, because they're currently very stiff. He has big raw power for a prospect who is likely to play on the infield and some of what plagued him as a junior seems correctable, so his market probably starts toward the back of round one amoung teams smitten with his Trackman readout. http://www.thebaseballcube.com/players/profile.asp?ID=200826 age AB H 2B 3B HR SB CS BB SO avg obp slg 2016 Missouri State 19 230 68 13 4 9 6 0 12 67 .296 .336 .504 2017 Missouri State 20 243 76 15 2 23 17 2 41 61 .313 .431 .675 2018 Missouri State 21 223 64 17 2 10 21 3 27 47 .287 .379 .516 https://missouristate_ftp.sidearmsports.com/custompages/sports/stats/m-basebl/stats/teamcume.htm?path=baseball&path=baseball#TEAM.MLB ---------- 3rd rd #85 Hogan Harris University of Louisiana-Lafayette(LA) LHP 4YR JR 6' 3 230lbs DOB: 12/26/96 BA National Rank:148 Signed for/Slot money: 0.66M/0.6838M mlb.com: https://www.mlb.com/video/2018-draft-hogan-harris-lhp/c-2078692983 Scouting grades: Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 55 | Slider: 50 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 45 | Overall: 45 Scouts noticed Harris at St. Thomas More High (Lafayette, La.) while scouting eventual Royals supplemental first-rounder Chase Vallot in 2014, and he developed into the state's best prep prospect for 2015. He went undrafted, however, because he wanted to attend his local college. Three years later, he should become the first Louisiana-Lafayette pitcher selected in the first five rounds since the turn of the century. Harris created a stir by hitting 98 mph in mid-March after missing a month with an oblique injury, though he usually pitches at 91-94 with some run and angle on his fastball. He has aptitude for spin, throwing a curveball with power and depth and morphing it into a slider at times. He also has an effective changeup to combat right-handers. While he possesses four pitches, Harris also has a lot of work to do to remain a starter at the next level. He lacks reliable command, and he loses velocity and location on his fastball at times when he falls in love with his breaking pitches. He also has a history of nagging injuries, leading to questions about his durability.
