Cubs ink Taguchi to Minor League deal Contract expected to become official next week By Carrie Muskat / MLB.com CHICAGO -- The Cubs have reportedly signed outfielder So Taguchi to a Minor League contract and are expected to make it official next week. A Cubs official said Friday the team will announce its non-roster invitees next week. According to ESPN.com, Taguchi will earn $900,000 if he makes the team in Spring Training. A career .279 hitter, Taguchi was a backup outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies last season and batted .220 with three stolen bases in 91 at-bats. He was 3-for-33 as a pinch-hitter. Taguchi does know the Cubs, having faced them while playing six seasons for the St. Louis Cardinals.
